Where to go
Mnemba Atoll off Matemwe is the headline reef. Menai Bay in the south-west has coral gardens, mangroves and sandbanks that surface at low tide. Kizimkazi is dolphin country.
What you'll see
Reef fish, moray eels, turtles and, seasonally, whale sharks and humpback whales further offshore.
Protect it
Use reef-safe sunscreen, never stand on coral, and don't touch or feed marine life. Choose operators that keep a respectful distance from dolphins.
